Stop and seize. The bandits wear blue.

Aggressive police take hundreds of millions of dollars from motorists not charged with crimes

Wow, that there's some blood-boiling outrage porn for sure.

Hard not to notice that TX is in good company with NY, NJ and CA on that map, eh? After the multitude of horror stories I've heard through acquaintances, I can't say I'm surprised to see the numbers.

Maybe Texans could take a moment to work on cleaning up their notoriously corrupt police forces if they weren't so busy congratulating themselves for being so free and independent.

"Come and take it" indeed.

... being cash, how much is 'skimmed' by the blue perps?

My comment:

The key to the problem, and therefore the solution, is to forbid government at any level to file civil actions. Criminal actions are the province of government.

If the govt can file civil actions, we the people ought to be able to file criminal charges without the consent of the DA or AG.

The war on drugs allows the confiscation of cash if the carrier of said cash is deemed to be carrying "too much" to be anything other than a drug dealer. Here in FL, in Volusia county (Daytona), the sheriff decided long ago that $50 is "too much". County police there have been confiscating cash from anyone that has that much or more on them for about 20 years.

They're also fond of pulling over for suspicion of drug trafficking any male minority driving a nice car (BMW, Audi, etc.) at or below the speed limit. Which they then search for "too much" cash. Big shock that someone driving a car that costs about twice the average cost of cars sold might have $50 on them. So be careful when traveling I-95 or US1 through the county, particularly when traveling North.

You want to exercise caution traveling east - west or the reverse in TN. Lots of this going on there.

Oregon outlawed this practice (no, not the legislature - it was done through the Initiative) but subsequently parts of this were overturned.

We shouldn't be surprised. The great project of all governments is plunder. Thieves ought to be shot, though.
