"As far as Islam is concerned, it is a political faith more than anything else, and a totalitarian one at that." Herschel Smith comments on "There are always ghosts."

Herschel Smith comments here on my latest, "There are always ghosts." Of echoed memory, whispered premonition, wars of blood and religion and Waltzing Matilda.
I'll have to get a copy of the book he recommends, Gordon H. Clark’s “Religion, Reason and Revelation.” I am a Christian and I agree with Herschel's criticism of Peters that he lumps all religions together. This is but one of the disagreements I have with Peters but I believe he has isolated something important in his "wars of blood and faith" concept. To have made that plain, however, would take another essay and my stuff is already condemned on many other blogs with the death sentence of TLDR -- "too long, didn't read." I'll try to get Clark's book and then take up that discussion at a later date.

On the face of it (and in practice by humans)all religions are the same. They are about a small group controlling a larger group. With that said, Christianity does have a saving grace (so to speak) that puts it out in front of all of the others. Matthew 5.43-45 ESV.

"You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you"

This is radical stuff; then and now. This is Christianity all rolled up into a bowl so that you may smoke it. It is also the only thing in any religious text that suggests that there is a God and he has had anything to do with goings on here on Earth. Everything else is self-serving human crap.

As a sidebar, TLDR may be four letters that spell out what has gone wrong with humanity. People will not read anymore and we all suffer for it.

Look up writings and web sites authored by Craig Winn. Especially the book "Prophet of Doom" which you can read on the net. Just do a search. Winn has been researching Islam and the Koran for many years. Another of his books is "Tea with Terrorists". Read his works. You'll see that the danger is not only "radicalized" Muslims. It is ALL of Islam! We should actually be at war with Islam itself!

I always get a chuckle when people explain how reasonable and decent Christianity is compared to Islam. There was a time when Islam was a whole lot more reasonable and decent than Christianity. Burn some witches or Jews, anyone?

Eh, it's all worldviews. I put politics in the same bag. Most Americans are better adherents of the government religion than their supposed Christian faith. Any problems, the first thing they do is run to government, not their faith, to fix it. Their kids are all in government schools, where they too learn the government faith.
