Pirates called "Police" and Alabama sheriffs acting like pigs.

American shakedown: Police won't charge you, but they'll grab your money
LATER: And on a related "ricebowl" issue -- "Local officials react to proposed bill that would relax gun restriction rights."
Let's be clear on this one. Alabama sheriffs want to maintain their income stream from pistol permits. That is exactly, precisely and totally what they object to this bill about. They are, in this case certainly, merely pigs feeding at the public trough.

Sheriff or state lawmaker or NRA lobbyist - there's no difference. They all want permission slips because they all feed from the same trough. The goal of permission slips is strictly to force YOUR wealth from YOUR pocket into THEIR hands.

The NRA is dead set on these state level permission slips in order to generate revenues that always accompany the permits - required training that it JUST HAPPENS to "provide". Imagine that.

Remind me again please. Why does any self respecting gun owner send a dime to the NRA?

Why doesn't the NRA challenge the poll tax aspect of permits? Well, that's cutting off their own money supply! Still think the NRA is "standing and fighting" for YOU? Hardly. They stand with sheriffs and state legislators - to get your dough.

Additionally -
What's with this "balancing" demands of citizens and crybaby whining from law enforcement?

Ummm the free standing interest BALANCING approach was DISCOUNTED, debunked, dismissed and otherwise transferred to file 13 by SCOTUS already.

These supposed "lawmakers" who "supposedly" support the Second Amendment "rights" of the "Citizens" should be asked to explain WHY they are using a standard to decide that SCOTUS says does not and CANNOT apply to this set of rights just as it CANNOT and does not apply to ANY enumerated rights.

But then, I guess that would take an honest reporter. Or heck, even a honest gun rights organization that hands out campaign cash and GRADES....

Another aspect of the permits is that the sheriffs use them to add their own personal restrictions to where/when you can carry. For example, a certain Blount county sheriff puts a restriction on his permits which forbids carrying in a restaurant which serves alcohol. In Alabama there is no law prohibiting carrying in a restaurant which serves alcohol. His restriction makes the permit invalid, if you do it, which then technically makes you carrying without a permit which is against Alabama law.

It's all about their slush fund continuing. The entire permit system needs to go away.

The old Wild West Blood On The Streets defense, proven false again and again. Misinformation propaganda seems also to be quite popular, as facts simply don't matter.

"People will die fighting over a parking space at the supermarket, road rage!" Dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria. It's the only defense they have.

It was used in Florida first in concealed carry, used again in carrying concealed in parks. "It's for the children".

When I lived in NC, the local Sheriff issued purchase permits, and collected a fee for CCW permit applications. Of course they are fighting to keep the trough filled. Gotta keep fuel and maint. for the MRAPS. And tacticool gear to boot.

God bless these oath keepers one and all.

A few years ago in 2012 NC was about to pass a law that would have allowed concealed carry in bars and movie theaters as well as ending Pistol Purchase Permit system that requires someone without a CCW to get a sheriff's permission to buy a pistol. The permit costs $5 and is may issue while NC's CCW is shall issue. Anyways the bill almost passed when the sheriffs realized that one of their cash cows was about to be taken away and they all protested the law, they claimed it was for safety but you still had to go through a background at the store so that was a lie and a bad one at that. The law almost failed because of stupid legislators believing the lies of the sheriffs and was only saved when they removed the part that would have ended the PPP.

"Oink" - as said in the 1970's!

Once they get their front trotters in the trough it is very difficult to get their snout out.

Looking at cases like this make me laugh and cry.

Vermont requires no firearms permits at all, and doesn't even issue them. No need to. No OK Corral shootouts here.

But because we don't have a stinking permit, we have no reciprocity and can't carry in any other state.

Those that wish to can get a New Hampshire non-resident permit and its reciprocity fairly easily.

The whole permit system should go away, as all it does is create unnecessary discretionary revenue for the cops and cause unneeded intrusion.

Most of us are the good guys. They haven't figured that out yet?

Nobody needs a permit anywhere. What people need is courage and self-respect, and to stop bending the knee for the ruling class. You can't get liberty out of a legislature. You get it by ignoring the legislature.
